Well, I’m back. I was travelling and then I was fighting a cold but the excuses are over and it’s time to start writing again. It’s actually a little frustrating as I had gotten some momentum before I left for Hong Kong. Three posts a week or so is a nice safe target considering all the other writing I have to do (or am supposed to be doing).
So it’s another iteration of what’s becoming a tradition on this blog: a short post outlining stuff I’d like to write about in the next week or so. Video games feature prominently here. A long time ago, I had the idea that my personal blog would be a video games blog but I never really played frequently enough or had enough ideas to make it so. Typically, I wrote about movies I thought were interesting or books I wanted to read than video games I had played. Recently though I find myself thinking about games an awful lot, so why not run with it? Ideas for blog posts to come soon include:
- A more in-depth reaction to Bioshock: Infinite
- A detailed response to The Last of Us (in short, it’s amazing)
- A comparison of how The Last of Us and Bioshock: Infinite incorporate gameplay into their theme or fail to do so
- A comparison of The Last of Us and World War Z
- A post about The Children of Men, PD James’ novel on which Alfonso Cuaron based a very similar-titled film
Hmmm. A lot of possible comparative posts there and to be honest, I’m not sure how I feel about that. This week is most likely to produce something on Bioshock: Infinite and The Last of Us separately. I’d like to write a little bit about Dr. Hannibal Lecter/Lektor as well, as a kind of follow-up to a post I wrote on Will Graham a few weeks ago.
So please do stop by and check the site later in the week. We’re most likely going to talk about post-apocalyptic scenarios in popular fiction (across various media) on the podcast too, so it seems like a fun week. A fun week talking and writing about rather grim material. Hope to see you around.
